I’ll be at SXSW for a few more days, probably spending more time talking about blogging and social media than actually having time to do it myself.
So much like the TV networks used to let you catch up on your favorite shows with summer reruns, here are some greatest hits of Newvine Growing to entertain you until I’m back to creating new content.
Profiles:
- Joel Zeff, a former coworker of mine on getting laid off as a journalist and discovering a new career as professional speaker, trainer and author
- Preservation Hall’s creative director Ben Jaffe on balancing tradition and creative innovation in the New Orleans jazz institution his parents founded
- Matt and Rene Greff on leaving corporate jobs they hated to become entrepreneurs and leaders in Michigan’s microbrew/brewpub world
Personal essays:
- Maybe sharing a bed is overrated — Lucy and Ricky beds might help your marriage This one was picked up by an Atlanta Journal Constitution blog, where it generated more than 100 comments. People are passionate about what it does or doesn’t mean to sleep on the same mattress as your spouse!
- Guest blogger Lisa Gauchey on how her mother’s death changed her life for the better
- A related post, my reflections on not having any regrets when my mom died of cancer at 51
- My gratitude that I gave the New Orleans Jazz Fest a chance, even though I felt certain I wouldn’t like it
- On throwing the worst disaster of a dinner party ever and being grateful anyway — one of a month’s worth of posts I wrote about gratitude leading up to Thanksgiving
My most popular post ever:
- Giving yourself room to evolve: the examples of Netflix and Chuck Close This piece is about how you can reinvent yourself without leaving your current definition of your business or your talents, as long as you’re willing to be flexible.
I hope you enjoy. And if you have suggestions for stories of evolution, revolution or living life intentionally, I’d love to hear them.
